Vacation Ideas for Couples

We would like to share 3 ideas for unique ways of spending time together along with a special way of spreading love in an unexpected place.

  1. 40th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Arts Show
This annual show is held in memory of Outer Banks preservationist and artist Frank Stick. It is held at Dare County Arts Council in Manteo, beginning January 27 – February 24, 2018. This art show is the longest running visual arts exhibit in Dare County. Local artists that are residents of Dare County, are members of Dare County Arts Council and age 18 or older, enter their most innovative work for the possibility of winning the distinctive Eure Best in Show Award, in honor of Glen and Pat Eure, owners of Ghost Fleet Gallery. Artwork in all mediums of pottery, paintings, metal, glass, sculptures and jewelry will be on display. Gallery Hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday 12 pm – 4 pm. The Gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday. There is no admission charge to the Gallery, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave in Manteo. Selected art and jewelry pieces are available for purchase. If you are looking for a gift for your Valentine or any other occasion, the Dare County Arts Council is a great place to shop for one-of-a-kind items.
  2. Winter Rose Pruning Workshop
Join John Buford at the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, on Saturday February 17 from 10 am – 12 pm, for an interesting discussion on rose culture, and proper pruning techniques to ensure vigor and to maximize spring blooms. This workshop is limited to 6 participants, so advanced reservations are required. The cost of the workshop is $15 for members or $30 for not-yet members of Elizabethan Gardens. Please call 252-473-3234 or email at info@elizabethangardens.org or visit www.elizabethangardens.org to register.
  3. Theatre of Dare – Community Theatre for NC’s Outer Banks
In its 27th season, the Theatre of Dare will be presenting 3 plays for the winter/spring of 2018: Almost, Maine in February; Cabaret in March; and Love, Sex and the IRS in April. Additional information and tickets, ranging in price from $21 – $32 can be found at www.threatreofdareobx.com. The perfect romantic comedy for Valentine’s Day, welcome to Almost, Maine, a town that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States—it’s almost in Canada. And it almost doesn’t exist. Because its residents never got around to getting organized. So, it’s just…Almost. One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. Love is lost, found, and confounded. And life for the people of Almost, Maine will never be the same. The final performances of this play will be held on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11. All performances for Almost, Maine will be upstairs at the Dare County Arts Council Building, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave in Manteo.
